NEW OFFICER SWORN-IN BY AIRPORT POLICE
(Los Angeles, California – November 22, 2017) Today Los Angeles Airport Police Academy Drill Instructor (DI) Officer Carlos Gonzalez proudly marched LAPD Academy Class 6-17 onto the field for a graduation ceremony held at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Elysian Park Academy. The forty-one members of LAPD Academy Class 6-17, which included the newest Airport Police Officer, Kit Yee, spent the last six months under the watchful eye of DI Gonzalez whose job was to instill discipline, mentor and provide leadership. “I am proud of Class 6-17 and of their hard work and sweat equity they put in during the last six months,” said DI Gonzalez.
Officer Yee, the son of Chinese immigrants is no stranger to challenges and touts graduating from the police academy as his proudest achievement. Prior to swearing-in Officer Yee, Airport Police Chief David Maggard spoke to Yee and his family, thanked them for the support and said “There are many exciting projects going on at LAX and lots of opportunities for you to be a part of in the future.”
Officer Yee will now begin a six-month Field Training Program specific to aviation law enforcement under the guidance of a field training officer before being assigned to the Patrol Services Section.
In addition to 550 sworn officers, Los Angeles Airport Police Division also employs 430 security officers and nearly 200 civilian professional staff. As the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the nation, Airport Police patrols and secures Los Angeles International Airport, the Nation’s second busiest and world’s fourth busiest airport, and VNY general aviation airport.
