AIR NATIONAL GUARD VETERAN JOINS THE RANKS OF THE LOS ANGELES AIRPORT POLICE
(Los Angeles, California – July 7, 2017) In a ceremony held today at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Elysian Park Academy, 19-year Air National Guard Veteran Officer Shannon Weathersbee took the oath of service and was sworn-in as the newest member of the Los Angeles Airport Police.
Officer Weathersbee and her forty-eight classmates, which included LAPD graduate Officer Raymond Armenta, brother of Airport Police Officer Xavier Armenta made up LAPD Academy Class 1-17. Officer Weathersbee, a Security Services Specialist during Operation Noble Eagle, fitness buff and avid body building competitor was selected by Class 1-17 as Class Vice President and was presented with the class Humanitarian Award.
Before swearing in the newest Airport Police Officer, Los Angeles Airport Police Assistant Chief Daniel Llorens spoke to Officer Weathersbee and said, “You have my gratitude for your service to our country, your patriotism and for your representation of our Division while in the academy.”
Officer Weathersbee will now begin a six-month Field Training Program specific to aviation law enforcement under the guidance of a field training officer before being assigned to the Patrol Services Section.
In addition to 550 sworn officers, Los Angeles Airport Police Division also employs 430 security officers and nearly 200 civilian professional staff. As the largest aviation law enforcement agency in the nation, Airport Police patrols and secures Los Angeles International Airport, the Nation’s second busiest and world’s fourth busiest airport, and VNY general aviation airport.
