LOS ANGELES WORLD AIRPORTS THANKS THE SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE FOR TAKING BIPARTISAN ACTION TO LIFT THE FEDERAL CAP ON THE PASSENGER FACILITY CHARGE
(Los Angeles, California – July 25, 2017) Today, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies, led by Chairman Susan Collins and Ranking Member Jack Reed, voted to lift the federal cap on the local Passenger Facility Charge (PFC). The PFC, which has not been updated for 17 years, is a user fee that funds airport infrastructure projects across the country.
“Today’s move by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee to lift the federal cap on the local Passenger Facility Charge is a direct result of the leadership of Senators Susan Collins and Jack Reed, who forged consensus around improving airport infrastructure across our nation,” said Deborah Flint, the CEO of Los Angeles World Airports. “ At LAX, we have a pressing need to improve our infrastructure and better serve passengers at the largest origination and destination airport in the country . This is a big step in addressing the nation's infrastructure needs, and LAX is excited that the Senate is considering this action in its current funding bill.”
The PFC cap restricted how much money local airports can raise to modernize their own terminals and airport facilities. LAX is embarking on a multi-billion dollar project to improve the way passengers get into and out of the airport. An increase in the PFC would give LAX a stable funding stream to help pay for these projects, without increasing federal spending. Lifting the cap for the PFC has received support from a wide variety of local business, labor, government, and community leaders.
