LAX HOSTS WORKFORCE RESOURCE FAIR FOR AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER PROJECT

            (Los Angeles, California – August 24, 2017) Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), in an effort to emphasize the importance of workforce development to the three teams competing to construct and operate the Automated People Mover (APM) at LAX, hosted a resource fair to connect them to regional resources to carry out an effective workforce development plan.

            A mandatory pre-proposal conference was held for all three teams submitting proposals to build the APM, at which the teams learned about LAWA’s requirements and internal workforce development resources, including the First Source Hiring Program (FSHP) and Hire LAX, as well as LAWA’s procurement process. The teams were briefed on the Workforce Development Program and its importance to LAWA and the City of Los Angeles.

            “We want Los Angeles residents to build LAX,” said Roger Johnson, Deputy Executive Director of Airports Development. “We felt it was important to bring the bid groups together to learn how workforce development is integral to the success of the project.”

            T he APM will be an elevated electric powered train with six stations along a 2.25 mile alignment (three inside the Central Terminal Area (CTA) and three outside), conveniently connecting travelers and employees to light rail, regional buses, parking and terminals. APM stations within the CTA will connect to the terminals via pedestrian bridges with moving walkways.

LAX is part of a system of two Southern California airports – along with Van Nuys general aviation – that are owned and operated by Los Angeles World Airports, a proprietary department of the City of Los Angeles that receives no funding from the City’s general fund.
